There is a stoplight near where I live that I avoid like the plague. It is one of those lights that seems to stay red forever. Sometimes I am forced to take that particular route and I feel like I am sitting at that light more than driving to and from my destination. It is a bit annoying. Can you tell?
Sometimes when I am driving towards it and it is red I speed up because if I time it just right I will hit the green light and possibly not have to wait. Sometimes that idea fails and it is still red when I get there. I don’t understand the timer on that light. It would appear that a monkey really is inside it messing with me!
This morning I was running late for church. The light was actually green while I was approaching it. But when I got close it turned red. I don’t do this often but today I decided to cut through the gas station parking lot to avoid the red light so I wouldn’t be late. I thought I had it made but the light changed again before I passed through. So I got stuck at the red light anyway even though I was now coming from a different direction! If I had been patient and sat at the light instead of taking the shortcut I wouldn’t have had to wait long at all.
So, I sat there at the red light and realized what had just happened. I had to laugh. No matter what I try to do on my own to hurry things up, God always has a way of slowing me down. When things don’t go MY way…He is saving me from something that is not meant for me. He is also teaching me lessons and in the process I am learning patience and endurance. And I am learning to trust His plan for my life more than my own.
It’s actually good to slow down and just enjoy the scenery.
