My daily devotional yesterday used the analogy that we are like balloons. God breathes air into us and we inflate much like a balloon, stretching us out beyond our boundaries. When God stops breathing, the air goes back out and we deflate and become discouraged.
Each time He breathes into us, we become larger and fuller with God’s presence. At some point we become so full of air (the presence of God) that no matter how much we deflate, the joy inside never leaves us. We can have horrible things happen to us, yet we are still thankful and joyful.
I am at a place in my life where I understand this.
Have you ever had a bad week? Of course you have, you are alive. Sometimes when bad things happen they seem to occur in clusters. Bad things always happen in 3’s right? I just experienced that.
Last week I went through a trauma in my personal life. Without sharing details, things got really, really bad for a couple of days. Earlier this week I broke a finger and messed up another one pretty bad. And today, I dropped my iPhone in a portable toilet.
The funny thing is that I am OKAY. And I had the best day at work today even though my hand is in a bandage and my cell phone has no sound at the moment. Honestly, I cannot remember ever having a better day than today, even though it was a bit crappy, so to speak. Why?
Because I choose to be THANKFUL. I choose to be JOYFUL.
I am BLESSED.
Life is never consistently a bowl full of cherries. Life is life. I am full of it because God has breathed new life into me in a way I have been aching for since I was a child. I have made the choice to embrace it and enjoy it.
Remember, no matter how discouraging things might be, it will ALWAYS get better. And if it doesn’t, your blessings are always bigger than your problems. God makes sure of that when you allow Him to breathe new life into you.
Blessings,
