Lent Day 16

My heart is heavy today for this world. I am admittedly ignorant about a lot of things going on because I purposely stopped watching the news years ago. I catch enough on social media however to know that we are in trouble. Between the refugee crisis in Syria, Greece and elsewhere, the billion dollar human trafficking business that has 27 million people enslaved at this very moment globally, the hunger crisis in Africa, Ebola epidemic in West Africa, deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan…the list is seemingly unending.

I am not a news reporter so I apologize if my details are vague or inaccurate. I am however a warrior for love and spreading the word of God to a world that is in desperate need of it. It’s not only in need in far off places…my own country is suffering as well in many ways. (See picture below from article about tiny houses being removed in LA posted today for example).

When Jesus was asked which of the commandments was most important He answered:

Mark 12:29-31 “The most important one, answered Jesus, is this: Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

In my daily Bible study this morning I read this verse from Leviticus 19:33 “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat him. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native born. Love them as yourself for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

It’s all about love. We are to LOVE one another and the human race is failing at that. The world we live in right now needs a gigantic dose of love and that begins with each one of us. Nothing will change if we don’t do something. Every effort matters. Every voice matters. Think of how you can do your part and ACT. Whether it is creating awareness, donating money, or physically going out and doing something…do what you feel in your heart God has prepared you to do. My favorite Chris Tomlin worship song is How Great is Our God. I get chills when I hear it and I think it is appropriate to share it with this message. I pickedĀ the world version sung in multiple languages (Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Zulu, Afrikaans and Mandarin) because it is POWERFUL message our world needs to hear so desperately.
