National Suicide Prevention LIFELINE (800) 273-8285
I originally shared the story of Austin Ray Mayfield on 4/5/15. Austin lost his life to suicide on August 29, 2014. He was 20 years old. I will share the link to the original blog below. If you haven’t already read it, please check it out and share it with others if you feel inspired to create awareness. In his mother Tara’s words, “One day I would love to start a non profit organization that would work with our schools to take steps to prevent suicide and educate the community and help end the stigma around mental illness and suicide.”
That is happening in about 10 weeks. A walk has been planned by the Future Business Leaders of America at the High School Austin attended in Henderson, Kentucky. The date is set for May 14, 2016 at 9:00 am at the Henderson County High School track.
FBLA member Alexander Wheeler is organizing the walk. Alexander told me the money raised for the walk will go to nonprofit suicide and awareness organizations. The walk is in memory of Austin Mayfield but also to honor the memory of others who battle with suicide and depression and those who have lost their battles. A Facebook page has been created for the walk. Please check out the link for updates and more information. I hope my friends in Henderson, KY and the area plan to attend or donate to this cause.
