Today is Thursday. For most of us, Thursday is usually exciting because it is the day before Friday and the beginning of the weekend. But today is not a regular Thursday. Today is Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday…which commemorates the day of the Last Supper and the day Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.
As described in Luke Chapter 22, Jesus broke bread and poured wine and said to his disciples “this is my body and this is my blood, do this in remembrance of me.” Jesus also washed the feet of his disciples on this day…an act teaching them to love and to serve.
I have listened to this story every year throughout my life and I am amazed every time I truly think about the events that took place in the days leading up to Jesus death, the crucifixion (Good Friday) and the resurrection (Easter). Jesus payed the ultimate price so that we could have eternal life. What an amazing gift!
His commandment to his disciples “love one another as I have loved you” and the washing of the feet is a call to remember to love with humility and to serve one another.
For it is in service that we find our purpose. We were each created for a purpose. We each have our own special and unique gifts to give. Instead of constantly focusing on what we have not, lets try and focus on what we have and use what we have to help others. It is our responsibility.
I wish everyone a very blessed and happy Easter weekend. And remember, you are loved.
