I Am Not Alone

1 Corinthians 9:22-23 “When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”

Do you ever have days where you feel completely alone? You are in contact with various people throughout the day but none of them knows what is going on inside your head. You might text with a couple of friends. You might talk to coworkers about work stuff. You might make a couple of phone calls. You might speak to the lady at the check out. You might talk to a family member in passing at home (or your two cats if you live alone like me). But none of these conversations have anything to do with what is going on inside your head that particular day. It is just superficial small talk. The people you are surrounded by are not on the same journey you as you. And even if they are you wouldn’t know because you don’t talk about it.

You feel isolated in a world of 7 billion people. Can you relate?

I know too well what it is like to feel out of place. I know what it feels like to be lonely. I have never had tons of friends…only a close few I felt I could share deeply with. I dated someone in the late 90’s who said something to me that has stuck with me. “I don’t understand why you don’t have more friends, you’re a really cool girl.” At the time that comment hurt me. I felt like something was wrong with me because he felt the need to point out that I didn’t have a lot of friends. But now when I think of it…I take it as a compliment. I am a cool girl 😉 I am different. I don’t try to fit in and I never have felt the need or had the desire to do so. In being ME I do isolate myself from a lot of people. That is just who I am.

The same goes when you choose to wear a servant hat and do work for God. You can end up isolating yourself from a lot of people who don’t understand your journey. So for me now, I have a double whammy. I am that cool girl who chooses to remain ME but now I am a servant of God too.

People begin to scatter from your life when they cannot handle the truth. But keep being YOU. Keep sharing your journey. Keep sharing the Good News. And the important thing to remember is that no matter where you go you are never alone or out of place. When you feel alone in a world of 7 billion people, God is right there with you. Be you. You are not alone.

Blessings,
