“It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.” ~ Quote by Tom Hanks from the movieĀ A League of Their Own
I participated in the parents tug of war contest on Sports Day last Saturday at the elementary school across the street where my friend’s son attends. I was a bit terrified I might get hurt because the competitors were mostly men. But although I didn’t exactly pull my weight, I did get a major adrenaline rush and a feeling of confidence and accomplishment when my team (Team Red) won twice in a row. I overcame a fear that day and I was proud of myself for doing it.
I’ve been at war with myself basically since I arrive here in Japan about six weeks ago. I’ve been torn between living in the moment, feeling freedom, and not worrying much about the future verses attempting to keep up with my reading, writing, goals, and job search. It’s been quite confusing to be honest. When I think too much about what I SHOULD be doing with my time here I end up not doing anything and usually just take a nap like I do at home.
Today I realized something. God just wants me to focus on HIM. Period. That’s it. When I do that…everything else has a way of falling into place. My busy mind is the devil’s distraction from what’s important.
I love the Tom Hanks quote. I read that tonight and it motivated me to actually write this entry that I started five times already on five different days. Walking with God means sharing what I know wherever I am regardless of how I’m feeling. The hard IS what makes it great. And just like my tug of war experience…once I get started…God steps in and makes sure I pull through to the finish. I just have to choose to do the work and He takes care of the rest.
Blessings,
